Miss Wingett's Class


Our Teacher is Miss Wingett and 

our Class Teaching Assistant is Mrs Edwards.



Welcome back to Term 6, this term our topic is Splash! We will be learning about the seaside, under the sea and pirates. 


This week we enjoyed our trip to Bristol Aquarium. We fed the fish and found out lots of new facts about animals that live under the sea.




We took part in Prayer Spaces along with the rest of the school. We completed activities with our friends about God.




On Monday, during Sports Week, we took part in Tour d' Almondsbury. We were sponsored to ride our bike or scooter around the track to see how many laps we could do in 20 minutes. We had lots of fun.



 We celebrated the Royal Wedding! We wore red, white and blue clothes to school and had a picnic and a party. We made flags to wave and decorated biscuits with icing and red, white and blue sprinkles. We played garden games on the field including duck, duck, goose, the parachute and boules.  


We walked to the Garden Centre and enjoyed spending a morning there learning about plants. We planted a sunflower seed and are eagerly awaiting for them to grow!


We also had a shopping list of items to find and then had a turn at scanning them in on the till.


We peformed our class assembly to the whole school. We told the children about our 'In the Garden' topic and all the things we have learnt about plants, flowers and minibeasts. We retold the story of the Bad Tempered Ladybird and sang 2 songs with actions. We all spoke loudly and confidently, our teachers were very proud of us! 



We have been making our own minibeasts.

We made butterflies by drawing around a template and cutting out the wings, we then used collage resources to decorate them, we used a tube for the body and had to find our own way to attach them to the wings.




We also painted pebbles to look like bees and ladybirds. 


This week we have been planting cress seeds and watching them grow. 


Welcome back to Term 5.

This term our topic is 'In the Garden'.

We will be learning about lots of different things that can be found in the garden including minibeasts and their habitats, frogs, seeds and plants. We will be learning about how things grow and their life cycles.

For the first 2 weeks we will be focusing on minibeasts and will be reading 'The Hungry Caterpillar', 'The Bad Tempered Ladybird' and 'Aaaarrgghh! Spider!


We took part in Sports Relief. All the children came to school dressed in their sports clothes. In the afternoon we took part in lots of fun dances.



This week (19/03/2018) we have been learning about Easter. We made some chocolate Easter nests in the children's kitchen. We followed the recipe and took turns to complete the steps. They were very yummy!



We went on an Easter Egg Hunt on the school field!

Thank you to all of the parents and grandparents who joined us for our problem solving afternoon on 15/03/2018. The children explored 4 activities which included various aspects of the EYFS mathematics curriculum. They completed a maths trail (counting and recognising numbers) around the school, played a fidhing game (recognising 2d and 3d shapes), used cubes to make snakes of certian lengths (non-standard measure) and used 1p coins to buy pets from the pet shop (money),



This week (05/03/2018) we have been learning about zoo animals. We enjoyed our trip to Bristol Zoo, looking at lots of different animals and taking part in a polar experience workshop. We found out about the people and animals that live in cold places. We pretended to be penguins and learnt how they huddle together to keep warm.






 Welcome back to Term 4.

This term our topic is 'Amazing Animals'

This week (19/02/2018) we have been learning about pets. We were very lucky to have a visit from the 3 guide dogs - Fizz, Murray and Dolly. We found out about what they do, asked interesting questions and even got to stroke them.


This week (05/02/2018) we have been reading the story Mr Wolf's Pancakes. We made pancakes in the children's kitchen, we all tried them and thought they were yummy.


We had lots of fun in PE doing pancake races over an obstacle course.


It has also been 'Enterprise Week' this week so we have been writing shopping lists and paying for things using 1p coins and counting money in Mr Wolf's piggy bank. We have been busy making things to sell at the fayre. We had a Gruffalo theme and made chocolate biscuit Gruffalo faces, scrambled snake jelly and playdough. We even wrote our own signs.






This week (29/01/2018) we have been learning about Jack and the Beanstalk. Imogen Daddy's came down from the garden centre and helped us to plant our own beans. We hope they grow really tall just like Jack's did!


Thank you to the parents and family members who joined us for the creative workshop. The children really enjoyed exploring the various activities with you and we hope you found it useful to gain an insight into how we teach creative subjects in Reception.


This week (15/01/2018) we have been learning the story of Little Red Riding Hood, we have been completing lots of fun activities including making jam tarts for Granny. We weighed the ingredients, rolled and cut out the pastry and put in the jam. They were very yummy!



This week (08/01/2018) we have been learning about the story Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We learnt to retell the whole story using actions. We made our own puppets to use to tell the story too. We enjoyed making porridge in the children's kitchen and we all tried it. 



We made chairs for Baby Bear using different constructions toys.

Welcome back to Term 3

This term our topic is Once Upon a Time. We will be learning about a different fairytale each week.

This week we had our wow day to launch our new topic. We all came to school dressed as our favourite characters. 

We completed a story workshop based on the book The Jolly Postman. We learnt a song about Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, helped the giant from Jack and the Beanstalk by counting his eggs and gold coins, put shoes in size order for Cinderella and escaped from the wolf by using hoops as stepping stones to get across the hall. We had lots of fun. We also made our own magic wands and melting snowman biscuits.



* Term 2 - Let's Party! Our Celebration Topic *

The last 2 weeks at school have been very busy!

We performed our nativity production - Whoops-a-Daisy Angel to our friends and families. We all sang loudly whilst doing the actions, danced beautifully and said our lines clearly.

We all wrote letters to Father Christmas. Isla and Bodhi walked to the shop with Mrs Edwards to post them to the North Pole.


We had lots of fun at our Christmas party. We wore our party clothes, watched a magic show, had party food and Father Christmas bought presents to our classroom.


We made Christingles and learnt about what the different parts represent.


We performed a Christmas song with actions to the whole school during the Entertainment Afternoon.

We went on our Christmas school trip to Old Down Farm. Eventhough it was a cold, wet day we had a brilliant time. We decorated gingerbreadmen with icing and sprinkles, made Rudolph hats and Christmas cone people.



We toasted marshmallows on sticks and had hot chocolate by the campfire.


We met Father Christmas in the yurt. We sang him a Christmas song, he read us a Christmas story and gave us a present each.

We saw some animals and had fun playing in the park.


We came to school in our Christmas jumpers for the school Christmas fayre.

We made paper chains to decorate our classroom.



This week (20th Nov) we have been learning about weddings. We read The Scarecrow's Wedding story by Julia Donaldson and even had our own wedding in school! We had a pretend ceremony, cut the cake, did a dance and toasted the happy couple with squash and biscuits at the wedding reception!



This week (13th Nov) we have been learning about Remembrance Day. We walked to the war memorial in Almondsbury and all laid a poppy. We were silent for a minute to remember the soldiers and then gave them a round of applause.


At the end of the week we celebrated Children in Need.

We completed lots of Pudsey Bear activities including making masks and playing a spot colouring game.

We all came to school dressed as superheros.

We met Pudsey Bear in the school hall!

This week (6th Nov) we have had a very busy week! We began with our Party Wow Day to launch our new celebration topic 'Let's Party!'

We came to school in our party clothes.

We made party hats and decorated cakes.


In the afternoon we had lots of fun playing party games.


We have also learnt about Bonfire night and Diwali this week and have completed lots of activities to increase our knowledge and understanding of these celebrations.

We have created our own firework displays on the computer and with pretend fireworks. We have decorated Mendhi hands and made our own Rangoli patterns on the computer and using sequins and powder paint. We used salt dough to make diva lamps and explored the Diwali items. 




The first week back was Book Week, this year the theme was poetry so Reception looked at Nursery Rhymes. Our key rhyme was Incy Wincy Spider which we performed to the whole school during the Book Week assembly on Friday.

 During the last week of Term 1 we have been learning about Autumn. We began with a walk on the field to collect different coloured leaves and conkers.



We have engaged with Autumnal activities throughout the week including making leaf hedgehogs with the leaves we collected, making leaf patterns, hammering tees into a pumpkin to help our fine motor skills and playing with the Autumn small world tray.


We also went on a trip to UWE where the university students organised activities based around the Stickman story. Although it was a rainy day we still had lots of fun in the woods.

Over the past few weeks we have been learning about being healthy. We have been playing in the role play dentist and learning about why our morning routine is important. We learnt about eating healthily and learnt how to make fruit kebabs and vegetable soup. We helped to make them by chopping the fruit and vegetables using knives very carefully.




Jim Gump visited our school to tell everyone about his inspirational running journey. We all joined him to run a lap around the school field. 



The children enjoyed our walk around the village in the sunshine. They had a clipboard with pictures of things that they needed to find along the way including the dentist, postbox and road signs. We had a quick play in the park too!




Thank you to all of the family members who joined us for the 'Funky Fingers' workshop. The children enjoyed exploring the activities with you and we hope you found it interesting learning about what the children need to learn and develop before they can become successful writers.




 We have enjoyed our first few days at school,

Teddy Bear's Picnic

On Wednesday 6th September the new Reception children came to school for the first time. They were very excited to bring their teddies to school and complete the activities with their buddies. They listened to the teddy bear's picnic story and joined in with a teddy song and dance before making teddy masks and pictures, going on a bear hunt and making their own sandwiches. They had playtime on the playground before enjoying their sandwiches, teddy crisps, teddy cake and raisins. Have a look at the photos of the children with their buddies in the album on the left.
