Miss Wingett's Class

Hello and welcome to Reception at Almondsbury Primary School. We are excited for our new year ahead.

Our Class Teacher is Miss Wingett and our Teaching Assistant is Mrs Edwards.

Welcome back to Term 6 - our final term of the year!

This term we begin with STEM Week (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths), where our school focus will be

'Greener Futures'. Reception will be recycling and reusing different materials.

Our Topic for the rest of this term is 'Splash!' We will be learning about under the sea, at the seaside and pirates.

Our Christian Value this term is Courage.

We will be using stories such as 'The Huge Bag of Worries', 'Can't you Sleep Little Bear?', 'The Gruffalo' and 'Emily Brown & the Thing' to explore being brave and courageous. We will also be linking this value to the children's transition to Year 1.

Welcome back to Term 5! This term our topic is 'In the Garden'. We will be learning about plants and minibeasts, how they change and how we can look after them.

Our Christian Value this term is Friendship. We will be using stories such as 'The Rainbow Fish', 'The Bumble Bear', 'The Bad Tempered Ladybird' and 'The Great Big Book of Friends' to explore this value.

We all enjoyed our wow day to launch our new topic. We came to school dressed in our gardening clothes and then walked up to the garden centre.

We explored the garden centre and found all the things on our shopping list. We then all had a turn at scanning the items in on the till.

We also planted sunflower seeds.

Once back at school we made cress heads, planted potatoes in bags and planted flowers and vegetables in the school garden. We hope they all grow really well!

We enjoyed learning about the meaning of Easter. We learnt about Palm Sunday, we made palm leaves and role-played Jesus arriving on his donkey.

We also tasted hot cross buns and learnt about the importance of the cross to Christians. We visited St.Mary's Church and completed the Easter Trail.

We made chocolate Easter nests and Easter cards to celebrate Easter.

We loved our school trip to Wild Place! We took part in a workshop where we listened to a story, made our own nature crowns and held a cockroach. We enjoyed looking at the animals, completing the barefoot trail and playing in the park.

Welcome back to Term 4. This term we are learning about 'Amazing Animals!'

We will be learning about pets, farm animals, wild animals and dinosaurs.

We are looking forward to visiting Wild Place and having some animals visit us at school.

Welcome back to Term 3.

We hope you had a lovely Christmas with your families and wish you a Happy New Year!

This term our topic is 'Once Upon a Time'. We will be learning about different fairytales including Goldilocks and the 3 bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs.

This week we have been reading Little Red Riding Hood. We made some jam tarts in the kitchen for her Granny!

We thought about things we enjoy doing with our Grandparents and some of us visited Glebe House and played parachute games with the residents.

This week we have been learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears. We made our own porridge. We helped to measure out the ingredients, mix them together and then tasted our porridge.

During the first week back we had our WOW Day!

The Reception children came to school dressed as their favourite characters to launch our new topic 'Once Upon a Time'. There were lots of different costumes including princesses, superheroes, Captain Hook, Peter Pan and even the Big Bad Wolf!

The children took part in a story workshop, they completed activities as they listened to 'The Jolly Postman' story.

They put shoes in size order for Cinderella,

counted gold coins and eggs for the Giant from Jack and the Beanstalk, matched the correct size items to the 3 Bears and escaped from the Big Bad Wolf by using hoops as stepping stones to get across the hall.

In the afternoon they made melting snowman biscuits and magic wands. They had a very fun and exciting day!

We went to Old Down Country Park for our Christmas School Trip. We enjoyed yummy hot chocolate and toasting marshmallows around the camp fire. We loved meeting Father Christmas in his yurt. We were very lucky that he gave us all a present and read us a story. We also enjoyed playing in the park, decorating gingerbread biscuits and seeing the animals.

We walked to the war memorial to look at the poppy wreaths. We all laid our own poppy and had a minutes silence to remember the soldiers. We then came back to school and created our own poppies.

We came to school dressed in spots for Children in Need. We worked with our buddies to decorate the playground with chalk spots for Pudsey Bear!

The first week back was Book Week.

Our focus book was 'Hovis the Hedgehog'. We completed lots of activities including making saltdough hedgehogs, toasting marshmallows on the firepit, icing firework biscuits and creating our own firework pictures.

We joined the school in dressing up as our favourite book character and spent time reading with our buddies.

Welcome back to Term 2. This term our topic is 'Let's Party!' We will be learning about lots of different celebrations and special days including Bonfire Night, Remembrance Day, Diwali and Christmas.

This term we have been very busy getting to know each other and exploring our new classroom. We have been learning about being healthy. We made fruit kebabs, vegetable soup and have been playing in the role play dentist.

We also went for a walk around the village and spotted things on our I spy clipboards such as the post box, dentist and church. We were lucky enough to see the apples being harvested.

We also enjoyed an Autumn walk on the school field where we colleced leaves and conkers.

Check back here for regular updates, information and photos about what we have been learning. This term our topic is 'All About Me', we will be getting to know each other, our families and senses.

Here we are on our first day at school!
