It's great to be back for our third term in Year 1.

Timings

Our class will continue to follow these times:

Start of day: 8.55am (entering through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

End of the day: 3:30pm (leaving also, through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

PE

Our class PE days will continue to be on Fridays for term 3 and Thursdays and Fridays for term 4.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.  PE will always take place outdoors so please provide them with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!

FOREST SKILLS

Forest Skills will take place every Thursday  afternoon during term 3, please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit clothes on this day.

READING BOOKS

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We visit the school library every Tuesday and school reading books are changed every Thursday. 

PHONICS

We will be continuing to cover the Y1 Curriculum and sound patterns following the Essential Letters and Sounds programme.

ENGLISH

We will starting off this term by reading the wonderful book 'Jack and the Beanstalk' by Richard Walker. This is to enhance the learning of our topic 'Castles and Dragons'.

MATHS

Our first unit this term is 2D and 3D shapes.  This will be followed by a unit on Place Value.

TOPIC

We will be starting an exciting new topic this term, 'Castles and Dragons'.

KNOWLEDGE ORGANISER

SCIENCE

This term our theme is 'Animals including humans'. This includes learning about the parts of the human body and our senses, animal body parts and what animals eat.

We will then be learning about 'Everyday Materials', which includes:

• distinguishing between an object and the material from which it is made

• identifying and naming a variety of everyday materials, including wood, plastic, glass, metal, water, and rock

•  describing the simple physical properties of a variety of everyday materials

•  comparing and grouping together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of their simple physical properties.
