We are so excited to be welcoming you back to school and are really looking forward to a fantastic year together!

Thank you everyone who was able to join me for  the Meet theTeacher session which took place via zoom after school on Thursday 10th September, 4.30-5.00pm. The 'Meet the Teacher' powerpoint is now attached below along with out Year 1 Curriculum jigsaw for this term

Term 1 Timings:-

Our class will begin the year by following these times:

Start of day: 8:50am (entering through the white hall door in the key stage 1 playground)

End of the day: 3:10pm (leaving also, through the white hall door in the key stage 1 playground)

PE

Starting from the week beginning 7/9/20, our class PE days will be on Thursdays and Fridays for Term 1.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.  PE will always take place outdoors so please provide them with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!

FOREST SKILLS

Forest Skills wil take place every Tuesday afternoon, please ensure your child comes to school in their Forest Skills clothes on this day.

WELL-BEING

Due to the unusual situation we find ourselves in and the fact that the children’s previous academic year was disrupted, we are using the 1st three weeks of term to focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.

ENGLISH

As part of our Recovery Curriculum for English, we will be focusing our work around the Oliver Jeffers book 'Here We Are'. This lovely book will give the children the opportunity to demonstrate their writing and reading skills and will link well to our focus on Wellbeing. We will also be assessing the children’s current levels to gauge how the school closures have affected their learning and to identify their next steps.

After completing a lovely unit on the book 'Here We Are' we are now reading the wonderful book 'Paddington' by Michael Bond.

READING BOOKS

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Tuesdays  for Year 1 and Wednesday for Year 2. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books. These will be changed and sent home the same day. All school reading books will be wiped down and left for 72 hours before another child can take them home. Due to this, we will be limiting the number of books children take home to 2 each week.

PHONICS

We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new patterns that would have been introduced during the school closure. This will ensure they have a solid understanding before moving onto the either the Y1 or Y2 Curriculum. The  Year 2 children would have had to sit the Y1 Phonics Screening Test during the Summer Term but due to school closures these were cancelled. We will be preparing the Year 2 children to take these tests during the Autumn Term.

MATHS

Similarly to English, we will be using the first few weeks of term to assess the children’s levels and to identify their next steps. We will be looking at the story books ‘1 is a Snail, 10 is a Crab’ and 'How Many Legs ' to help the children reengage with their Maths learning. We are them moving onto an 'Addition and Subtraction' unit. Our Maths Attack tests will take place every Monday, please see the link below to see all of the Maths Attack levels:
