t Mary’s Almondsbury financial position. Nick, our treasurer, reported to our recent PCC meeting that our financial position means that we need additional support from our congregation and friends in and around the village. Our operating loss last year was £18,500; partly because we have been running a £6,000 loss in previous years but mainly because our spending on supporting Church activities and the building remain high as in previous years while our general income has dropped considerably primarily due to closure of the church to services.  We have looked to cut our general expenditure but the major element is our Parish Share contribution which we have increased to £52,000 for 2021. This supports other Churches in the Bristol area that are much less well off than Almondsbury and desperately need our help.

We still have considerable reserves in the bank but these are almost entirely earmarked for major projects and works and the recent discovery of a large infestation of death watch beetle in part of the church is likely to consume all our uncommitted reserves.  As a PCC we are obviously committed to the preservation of our beautiful church building for future generations but we also recognise the desperate need of fellow Christians at home and abroad in these pandemic times and want to to be able to fund our mission activities to relieve suffering.

All are welcome to this year’s Lent Group meeting on Wednesdays at 7.45pm for 8pm and will focus on the ‘Live Lent’ booklet. https://zoom.us/j/9312563357?pwd=REd3VkVKcUt3U0dKQlNWRWkyTHFaZz09

As we are opening Almondsbury Church on Easter Sunday, we could do with a small team of people to do a light spring clean to freshen up the building. It’s mainly dusting, sweeping, polishing or whatever you feel you would like to do. Please could you let Alison Rowe know if you are keen to help. Many thanks.

Your views are important. Through ‘Transforming Church. Together.’ the Diocese of Bristol is shaping a new vision and set of priorities for the coming years. In particular it is trying to understand what is done well, what can be changed for the better and how to create a positive way forward together. To do this we are all being asked to make our views known by completing a short online questionnaire which asks questions about six areas and asks us to put them in order of importance: Supporting people, Worship, Equality and justice, Caring for the environment, Helping people follow Jesus, and Providing safe places in community.  The questionnaire is at https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/TCTquestionnaire and further information about the process is at https://www.bristol.anglican.org/transformingchurch/ We are also holding a workshop to discuss these questions on Tuesday 30 March at 7.30pm on Zoom Link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/5195968025?pwd=NExMY1Z3TVFrWmVVQzB1d0E4dGcvQT09 Please join Philip and Paul at the workshop [There is no need to book in – just turn up!]  If you have any questions or would like any further information or would like a printed copy of the questionnaire please contact Paul at paulvanrossum@gmail.com or Philip at vicar@stmaryssevernside.org.uk
