Term 2 Information

It's great to be back for our second term in Year 1.

Timings

Our class will continue to follow these times:

Start of day: 8.45am (entering through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

End of the day: 3:05pm (leaving also, through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

PE

Our class PE days will continue to be on Thursdays and Fridays.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.  PE will always take place outdoors so please provide them with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!

FOREST SKILLS

Forest Skills wil take place every Tuesday afternoon, please ensure your child comes to school in their Forest Skills clothes on this day.

READING BOOKS

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Mondays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books. These will be changed and sent home the same day. All school reading books will be wiped down and left for 72 hours before another child can take them home. Due to this, we will be limiting the number of books children take home to 2 each week.

PHONICS

We will be continuing to cover the Y1 Curriculum and sound patterns. Please see the attached tab for our phonic lists and homework sheets, we will have having a phonic spelling test every fortnight on a Friday.

ENGLISH

We will starting off this term with a whole school Book Week! As part of Book Week we will be reading the following books,  Rice and Rocks by Sandra Richards and Look Up by Nathan Bryon,  we are also very excited to have a visit from the Explorer Dome. (please see the attached letter for details). 

Please join us for our Book at Bedtime sessions, these will be taking place at 6.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday via zoom, a code will be texted to allow you to join each evening.

On Friday 7th November the children are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character.

           

Following on from covering a lovely English fiction unit on Paddington by Michael Bond last term, we are going to be doing a non fiction unit on Bears!

MATHS

Our first unit this term is Shape, where we will be covering both 3D and 2D shapes.  This will be followed by a unit on Place Value.

TOPIC

We will be continuing to learn about our capital city, LONDON, where it is in the UK, it's famous landmarks and how important it is to our country.

SCIENCE

This term our theme is 'Animals, including Humans'. This includes learning about our body parts, our senses, animal groups, animal body parts and the food animals eat.

Our theme in Collective Worship is 'Respect'. Our British Value is  also 'Respect'.
