A very warm welcome to all our new Reception children and their families. We look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to our Almondsbury family.
Each year we organise a number of activities to inform parents and carers about the starting school process and to support the children with their transition to our school.
The plan and key dates for this year are outlined below.
April
Wednesday 15th April 2026 - you will receive notification of the school place offered to your child. If your child has been offered a place at our school for September 2025, please ensure you accept the place by Wednesday 29 April 2026.
May
Tuesday 5 May - A welcome letter from Mr Smith sent out to all parents (via email), inviting you to attend our 'Welcome Morning', along with an admission form and lunch choices letter. Admission form to be returned no later than Thursday 21st May.
June
Tuesday 9th June 9:15 - 10:30 - 'New Parents Welcome Morning'– this will involve a presentation from Mr Smith with information about the school and phased intake process, a tour of the school from your child's new teacher, and an opportunity to introduce yourselves and ask any questions you may have. You will also have the opportunity to purchase school uniform, bookbags and welly bags.
Monday 22nd - Thursday 25th June 12:00 - 12:45 - We invite your child and one parent to come into school for lunch together. After lunch, you will have chance to explore the Reception environment.
July
Tuesday 30th June or Thursday 2nd July 9:30 - 11:00 – Your child is invited into school for a 'Stay and Play' session. Please note they will be allocated 1 of these dates. This session is just for the children.
September
Wednesday 2nd September or Thursday 3rd September – The class teachers will carry out 'Home Visits' for each child. This is optional but very much encouraged as it is a great way for the children to meet their teachers, before starting school, in an environment where they feel most comfortable. The children often enjoy sharing their favourite toy or book. You will be allocated 1 of these dates and a time at your child's Stay and Play session.
Friday 4th September - 'Teddy Bears' Picnic' - the children will bring their teddy, make a sandwich, decorate a biscuit and go on a bear hunt!
This will be with half of the class at a time - morning (10:00 - 11:30) or afternoon (1:30 - 3:00).
Monday 7th & Tuesday 8th September – ½ days – 9:00 – 11:30 or 12:45 – 3:15
Wednesday 9th, Thursday 10th, Friday 11th September – All children morning & lunch 9:00 - 12:45
Week beginning 14th September – All children full time 8:55 - 3:30
