Mr Garcia's Class

Welcome to the Year 2 Page!

Here you will be able to find key information about our class this year.

Our PE days this year will be Tuesday and Thursday.

Our Book Changing day is Thursday.

We will do Maths Attack every Friday.

Forest School this year will be in Term 2 and Term 5.

WELL-BEING

The first fortnight of school will have a focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.

ENGLISH

As part of our Wellbeing fortnight, for English, we will be focusing our work around the book 'The Secret Sky Garden' by Linda Sarah. This lovely book will give the children the opportunity to demonstrate their writing and reading skills and will link well to our focus on Wellbeing.

After completing the wellbeing fortnight we will reading the book 'Traction Man' by Mini Grey.

READING BOOKS

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Thursdays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books, these will be changed and sent home the same day.

PHONICS

We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds programme. We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new spelling patterns in preparation for Key Stage 2.

MATHS

Our first unit of Maths is 'Place Value' and we will be looking at the composition and value of numbers up to 100.

After this, we will cover 'Addition and Subtraction' where we will be using strategies to help become fluent in calculations up to 20 and then learning different methods to help us calculate within 100.
