Miss Whittingham's Class
Welcome to Year 5!
Hello and a very warm welcome to our Year 5 class page! I hope that we have a fantastic year together and form a safe, happy and caring class, who make great progress with our learning.
Year 5 is a time of fantastic growth, where children become more independent, confident and curious about the world around them. This year, we’ll be diving into exciting topics, exploring new skills and working together to make brilliant memories along the way.
Please speak to me after school or contact me via email if you have any questions, concerns or if you have any positive feedback.

Homework
Homework will be handed out on Friday. This will consist of either a Guided Reading text or an additional piece of Maths or English work. Homework MUST be returned on Tuesday. It is really important that children make an effort to complete homework.
Reading
This term, we will be reading a new text called 'The Explorer'
The Explorer is an adventure and survival story about four children - Fred, Con, Lila and her little brother Max - whose plane crashes in the middle of the Amazon rainforest while they are travelling back to England. Stranded with no adults and little idea how to survive, they must work together to find food, shelter and safety, facing dangerous animals, the challenges of the jungle, and their own fears. Along the way, they discover clues that lead them to a mysterious lost city and a strange man known as the explorer, who changes their understanding of their situation and tests their courage and friendship. The novel explores themes of teamwork, resilience, the beauty and danger of nature and growing up as the children fight to get home.

PE & Forest School
Our Forest School day is Wednesday and our PE day is Thursday. All children should come to school in their PE kit and must also bring a drink. It is recommended that children also bring their coat/waterproof clothing for Forest School.
