Mr Garcia's Class

Welcome to our Year 2 class page!

I hope you have all had a lovely half term and are excited to be coming back to school. We are really looking forward to welcoming you all back and we hope that we have a great term in the run up to Christmas.

Class Timings

Start of School: 8.55am

End of School: 3.15pm

Children will enter and exit the school through the white hall door leading onto the KS1 playground. Please can you make sure you are on time for drop off and pick up to ensure there is sufficient time for the playground to clear for the next class.

PE and Forest School

Our class PE days will be on Mondays and Thursdays for Term 5.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.  PE will always take place outdoors as we are unable to use the hall so please provide them with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!

There will be no Forest School in Term 5.

Due to the unusual situation we find ourselves in and the fact that the children’s previous academic year was disrupted, we will continue to focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.

This term we are looking at the story of the Gingerbread Man and also looking at Non-Fiction diary writing.

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Tuesdays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books. These will be changed and sent home the same day. All school reading books will be wiped down and left for 72 hours before another child can take them home. Due to this, we will be limiting the number of books children take home to 2 each week.

We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new patterns that would have een introduced during the school closure. This will ensure they have a solid understanding before moving onto the Y2 Curriculum. The children would have had to sit the Y1 Phonics Screening Test during the Summer Term but due to school closures these were cancelled. We will be preparing the children to take these tests during the Autumn Term.

This term we will be recapping Addition and Subtraction in the context of measures.

We are also promoting the use of Numbots and Times Table Rockstars.

Numbots helps children with their basic knowledge of number and Times Table Rockstars helps children with their times table and division recall.
