Class Timings

Start of School: 8.55am

End of School: 3.15pm

Children will enter and exit the school through the white hall door leading onto the KS1 playground. Please can you make sure you are on time for drop off and pick up to ensure there is sufficient time for the playground to clear for the next class.

PE and Forest School

Our class PE days will be on Mondays and Thursdays for Term 1.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.  PE will always take place outdoors as we are unable to use the hall so please provide them with suitable clothing for whatever weather conditions we may face!

Forest school will be on Tuesdays so the children will need to come to school in their Forest School clothes on Tuesdays.

Due to the unusual situation we find ourselves in and the fact that the children’s previous academic year was disrupted, we are using the 1st three weeks of term to focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.

As part of our Recovery Curriculum for English, we will be focusing our work around the Oliver Jeffers book 'Here We Are'. This lovely book will give the children the opportunity to demonstrate their writing and reading skills and will link well to our focus on Wellbeing. We will also be assessing the children’s current levels to gauge how the school closures have affected their learning and to identify their next steps.

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Tuesdays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books. These will be changed and sent home the same day. All school reading books will be wiped down and left for 72 hours before another child can take them home. Due to this, we will be limiting the number of books children take home to 2 each week.

We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new patterns that would have been introduced during the school closure. This will ensure they have a solid understanding before moving onto the Y2 Curriculum. The children would have had to sit the Y1 Phonics Screening Test during the Summer Term but due to school closures these were cancelled. We will be preparing the children to take these tests during the Autumn Term.

Similarly to English, we will be using the first few weeks of term to assess the children’s levels and to identify their next steps. We will be looking at the story book ‘1 is a Snail, 10 is a Crab’ to help the children reengage with their Maths learning.
