Mr Garcia's Class

Welcome to Year 2!

This term our topic is called 'The Great Fire Of London'

We will be focussing on the historical event of the Great Fire of London in 1666. We will start by comparing London from 1666 to what it is like in 2023. We will look at the causes and effects of the fire and the children will start to develop their historical enquiry skills by looking at artefacts and diary entries to help understand what happened.

Our PE day will be Tuesday this term and Forest School will be on Thursday.

The children will continue to bring their bookbags in on their selected days. We ask that children try to read at least 4 times per week at home and that this is recorded in their reading records.

We will also go to the library on Tuesdays so the children can bring their Library book in to be changed on this day.

We will be starting off this term by looking at the traditional tale of 'The Gingerbread Man'

This term we will be learning about telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes focussing especially on o'clock, half past, quarter past and quarter to.

We will also look at different measures including length, height, weight, volume and capacity.

This term our themes are 'Materials' and 'Plants'

We will be looking at the names, properties and uses of different materials alongside developing our scientific investigation skills.

We will also look at the life cycle of a plant and the necessary requirements for a plant to grow.

Our Collective Worship theme for this term is 'Humility' and our British Value is 'Respect'.

Our Heartsmart focus is 'Don't Forget to Let Love In' which teaches the children the importance of being kind to each other and accepting the love that others give.
