Hello and welcome to our Reception class page
at Almondsbury Primary School

We have 2 Reception classes:

Reception 1

  • Miss Wingett (class teacher)
  • Mrs Edwards (teaching assistant)
  • Mrs McAuley and Mr Gosai (1:1 teaching assistants)  

Reception 2

  • Mrs North (class teacher)
  • Mrs Clarke (teaching assistant)
  • Mrs Jones (1:1 teaching assistant)

We are looking forward to getting to know the new Reception children and their families.

Term 1 - Our topic this term is 'All about me'.

We will be finding out about our bodies, families, people who help us and being healthy.

We will also be settling in, making friends and learning the new rules and routines of school.

Our theme in collective worship is forgiveness.

Term 2 - Our topic this term is 'Let's Party!'

Our theme for collective worship is compassion. 

 We performed our Nativity play, 'The Innkeeper's Breakfast' to the whole school and our families. We enjoyed learning all the songs, actions and our lines and wearing our costumes on the stage.

During this term we will be finding out about how people celebrate different celebrations around the world including Diwali, Christmas, weddings and birthdays.

We will also be rehearsing for our Christmas nativity -

'The Innkeeper's Breakfast'

This term we will begin to send home our class book 'I am Bat!' as well as our class bears. Don't forget to complete the scrapbooks with your child.

  • Friday 20th December - Christmas service at St. Mary's church

Term 3 - Once Upon a Time

We hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year with your families.

This term our topic is' Once Upon a Time'.

We will be learning about lots of traditional tales including Goldilocks & the 3 Bears, Little Red Riding Hood and The 3 Little Pigs.

Our Collective Worship theme for this term is 'Hope'.

We will be continuing our Reception home-school links by sending home the class bear, the cooking bag,
our class book - I am Bat,

and will also be starting the Marvellous Me! box.

Term 4

This term our topic is 'Amazing Animals',

we will be learning about different types of animals including dinosaurs, pets, nocturnal animals and African animals.

Our Collective Worship value this term is 'Truthfulness'.

We are going to Wild Place on Thursday 5th March to see some real African animals and to take part in a workshop.
