School Achievements

We have Healthy School status and were awarded a plaque and certificate. We consider this to be of great importance for today's lifestyle. We offer the 2 hours of PE we are required to and have gained Active mark for all our efforts in PE and healthy lifestyles work and learning for the past 3 years. We do daily runs and physical activities.

Our physical education is very good. The children enjoy their Wake up Shake up sessions both in the classrooms and on the school field. The children enjoy doing their exercises to the music. We also teach REAL PE. We are the proud holders of the Platinum School Sports Award one of the first to hold this award within the local authority.

We have successful sports teams and lots of sports after school clubs, including Tag Rugby, Netball, Football, Cross Country/Athletics, Basketball, Multi-skills and Dodgeball. We have our own athletics t-shirts.

The children have a varied and exciting PE curriculum. We have had various sports, dance and athletics coaches into school to enhance this learning from experts.

We have a fantastic music department at Almondsbury. Nearly 90 children in key stage 2 have lessons to learn how to play a musical instrument. There are 9 instruments to choose from. We look forward to the annual Instrumental Evening each year when we are treated to performances by all thos who play instruments.

The choir has won the 'Best Choir' section of the Thornbury Eisteddfod many times. This is quite an achievement.

Our choir sang with the Harlequin Singers (a semi-professional choir from Bristol) in St. Mary's Church, Almondsbury. This raised over £2000 for our partner school in Kitgum, Uganda. We have also sung with the Africa Children's Choir and sung at Wembley Arena in VIAMS.

We successfully achieved the Gold standard for the Waste Warriors programme within South Gloucestershire. We were the first school to achieve this award! This entailed being aware of environmental issues, waste recycling and energy consumption. We were presented with our award in assembly last Friday and it will be proudly hanging in the foyer shortly. We will of course continue to strive to be as environmental as possible including encouraging walking to school, healthy eating and making sure we use less energy.

We currently have a Silver Eco award for the work the children and staff do.
