Starting from the week beginning 6/9/20, our class PE days will be on Thursdays and Fridays. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.
Forest Skills will take place on Tuesday afternoons, in terms 3 and 6. Please ensure your child comes to school in their Forest Skills clothes on this day.
The first fortnight of school will have a focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.
As part of our Wellbeing fortnight, for English, we will be focusing our work around the book 'Freedom We Sing' by Amyra Leon. This lovely book will give the children the opportunity to demonstrate their writing and reading skills and will link well to our focus on Wellbeing.
After completing a lovely unit on the book 'Freedom We Sing' we will be reading the wonderful book 'Paddington' by Michael Bond.
The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Mondays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books. These will be changed and sent home the same day. The children will take home to 3 books each week.
We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds programme. We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new patterns that would have been introduced during the school closure. This will ensure they have a solid understanding before moving onto the Y1 Curriculum and sound patterns.
Similarly to English, we will be using the first few weeks of term to assess the children’s levels and to identify their next steps. We will be looking at the story book 'How Many Legs?' to help the children reengage with their Maths learning. We are then moving onto an 'Addition and Subtraction' unit. Our weekly Maths Attack tests will take place every Thursday, please see the link below to see all of the Maths Attack levels:
