Term 1 and 2 Information

We are so excited to be welcoming you back to school and are really looking forward to a fantastic year together!

The ‘Meet the Teacher’ event will take place on Tuesday 10th September at 3.30pm.

Timings

Our class will begin the year by following these times:

Start of day: 8.55am (entering through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

End of the day: 3:30pm (leaving also, through the cloakroom door in the Key Stage 1 playground)

PE

Our class PE days will be on Thursdays and Fridays.  Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on those days.

FOREST SCHOOL

Outdoor learning will take place on Thursday afternoons, in terms 3 and 6. Please ensure your child comes to school in their PE kit on this day.

WELL-BEING

The first fortnight of school will have a focus on Wellbeing and Mental Health. The children will be participating in lots of creative activities which will help them to express themselves and discuss their feelings.

ENGLISH

As part of our Wellbeing fortnight, for English, we will be focusing our work around the book 'The Koloa who could' by Rachel Bright. This lovely book will give the children the opportunity to demonstrate their writing and reading skills and will link well to our focus on Wellbeing.

After completing a lovely unit on the book 'Freedom We Sing' we will be reading the wonderful book 'Paddington' by Michael Bond

READING BOOKS

The children will only be required to bring their book bags in on Thursdays. This should include their Reading Record and school reading books, these will be changed and sent home the same day.

PHONICS

We follow the Essential Letters and Sounds programme. We will be recapping the letter and sound patterns that the children learnt last year as well as introducing them to new patterns that would have been introduced during the school closure. This will ensure they have a solid understanding before moving onto the Y1 Curriculum and sound patterns.

MATHS

Similarly to English, we will be using the first few weeks of term to assess the children’s levels and to identify their next steps. We will be looking at the story book 'How Many Legs?'  to help the children re-engage with their Maths learning. We are then moving onto an 'Addition and Subtraction' unit.

TOPIC

This term our topic is 'Let's Explore London'.
